La vie en loop
I am a contemporary hand hooking textile and fibre artist. I was born in Montreal, QC, spent my teen years in Toronto, ON and have settled in a picturesque area of New Brunswick called Point La Nim on the north shore. Life in this rural area is framed by the Baie des chaleurs and a home surrounded by beautiful perennial flower and vegetable gardens.
My lifelong journey with textiles and fibers started when I was very young, all the women figures in my family were makers. My mother would make my school dresses by hand, without the use of a sewing machine until I was a teenager. I remember staying up late and watching her sew my jumpers then getting up in the morning to find the garment ready for me to wear to school. It was then that I learned that making involved commitment and love.
Through my mother’s hand sewn jumper my creative story began. I started sewing my own clothes and learned how to knit and embroider. I have also made quilts and clothes and have been sewing for over 40 years.
When I started to work with hand hooking my artistic skills and experiences converged into an art form I have now made my own. My creative voice soars in a method of hooking that is both non-traditional and inventive. I enjoy losing myself in my work as each loop calls me to the next. I am in my happy place!
